U. S. News & World Report and the Public Accounting Survey put three schools atop their lists of Best Undergraduate Accounting Programs.
Students interested in majoring in accounting have many choices throughout the country. However, students who want to attend one of the best business schools in the country for accounting should consider the three schools ranked by U.S. News & World Report and the Public Accounting Survey as the best in the nation: the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, or Brigham Young University.University of Texas at Austin
The University of Texas offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Accounting, requiring 21 accounting courses. Students taking coursework in the McCombs School of Business can also choose a finance major with an emphasis in accounting that requires a minimum of nine accounting courses beyond introductory courses.
U.S. News & World Report ranks the McCombs BBA as the best in the country, while the Public Accounting Report Survey ranks the program second. Both publications rank the McCombs graduate accounting program highly as well.University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
The College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. The department also provides an accountancy certificate program and a Bachelor/Master in Accounting Science program that prepares students to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam in Illinois.
U.S. News & World Report ranks the accounting program at Illinois the second-best in the country on the undergraduate level, while the program takes the top ranking from the Public Accounting Survey. The Marriott School Bachelor of Science in Accountancy consists of 71 credits plus an “Accounting Jr. Core.” In the Accounting Jr. Core, students take 24 hours of accounting courses in the junior year, spread across the fall and winter semesters. Students frequently take few to no other courses during this time.
